Violence against women and the LGBTQ+ community pervades our societies at all levels, from the home to the state. Join activists and organizers to share perspectives on the struggle against patriarchy and gender based violence in all of its forms in today’s world. 

  • Ofelia Fernandez

    Argentina

    Ofelia Fernandez is an Argentine politician and political activist with the Frente Patria Grande. She is the youngest member of the Buenos Aires City Legislature, having been elected on 27 October 2019, at only 19 years of age.

  • Karina Garcia

    United States

    Karina Garcia is a Chicana organizer, popular educator, and member of the Central Committee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. She started organizing young women as a high school student in Southern California 20 years ago. At Columbia University, she led struggles for immigrant rights and financial aid reform, and against the Iraq war. She later taught high school math, co-founded the Justice Center en El Barrio in NYC and worked for many years as the Education Director of the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Justice, training working-class Latina activists principally in Florida, Texas, Virginia and New York.

  • Li Ann Sanchez

    México

    Li Ann Antonio Sanchez is a trans, mexican, and indigenous woman and a defender of human rights. She has experienced a variety of social injustices like discrimination, ineqaulity, gender based violence, and labor exploitation both in the U.S. and in Mexico. After being in solitary confinement in ICE detention, she became a fighter for her community against many forms of oppression. Her work and advocacy is featured in the New York Times, CNN, and Telemundo. She is the Director of Community Estrella in Georgia.

  • Cindy Wiesner

    United States

    Cindy Wiesner is a 30-year veteran of the social justice movement in the U.S. and internationally. She is the Executive Director of the Grassroots Global Justice Alliance (GGJ) and Grassroots Global Justice Action Fund (GGJAF).

  • Jenice Fountain

    United States

    Jenice Fountain is a grassroots organizer in Birmingham dedicated to reproductive justice, direct aid and reparations for the Black community. Jenice -a mom herself - is the founder of Margins: Women Helping Black Women, a local community aid organization that addresses the financial and material needs of low-income Black mothers and their children. Jenice brings this extensive community knowledge to her role as a Family Justice Organizer, assisting Yellowhammer Fund in providing additional support for those located in the Birmingham area.

  • Gretel Marante Roset

    Cuba
    Gretel Marante Roset has a Bachelor in History and is the International Relations Officer of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC). She has participated in several international events, including the XIV ECLAC Regional Conference on Women, the XXI ECLAC International Seminar on Gender Statistics, Cuba’s delegation to the 60th Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the ECLAC Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean, the 63rd, 65th and 66th sessions of the Commission on the Status of Women of the UN, and the 61st and 62nd Executive Board of ECLAC.
